Alberto Majrani THE CUNNING HOMER and the ingenious deception of the Odyssey

Who killed the suitors in Homer’s Odyssey?? A careful reading of the epic poem reveals a myriad of clues left by Homer with a surprising conclusion: the mysterious stranger, who arrived in Ithaca after twenty years and that no one was able to recognize was not Ulysses! But then, who could he really be? He was the expert Achaean archer Philoctetes in disguise! With this key, the Homeric poem suddenly assumes a logic and coherence hitherto unsuspected. This explains why Homer continues to praise the art of deception: it is he who has deceived us for three thousand years! And the surprises do not end there: all the apparent inconsistencies of the Iliad and the Odyssey that have plagued students and teachers for generations, known as the "Homeric Question", now fall effortlessly in place. The ancient texts finally agree with historical and archaeological data, fully revealing the genius of their author. Investigating the naturalistic, geographical and astronomical aspects with the right scientific key, it turns out that many myths are not only beautiful fairy tales, but arise from real events whose origin is only now beginning to be glimpsed.

TO PUBLISHERS

Dear Sirs,

"Good Homer sometimes sleeps," proclaimed Horace... but perhaps Homer was much smarter than we think! As Aristotle wrote (Poetics, 24, 19): "Homer above all taught others how to tell lies." Now we understand why Homer continued to praise the art of deception; he was the true king of cunning!

All the Hollywood press offices are bombarding newspapers and television stations with Christopher Nolan's new blockbuster film about the Odyssey . It's safe to assume it will be seen by hundreds of millions of viewers, both in theaters and on television. Two billion people will be talking about it.

Shouldn't we exploit this enormous free advertising campaign to launch a book explaining the TRUE STORY OF THE ODYSSEY? What if the solution to the greatest mystery in human history was different than we've always thought?

Books on mythology and archaeology, such as those by Madeline Miller, Manfredi, and Jacq, as well as television programs on the same subjects, have a huge following, not to mention all those that discuss "mysteries" without providing scientifically valid solutions. There are millions of interested readers.

I wrote two book in Italian about Odyssey and Homeric question; my first book ULISSE, NESSUNO, FILOTTETE, only 141 pages, has been a finalist in 2008 for the Florence Prize for Nonfiction and for the Cesare De Lollis Prize, dedicated to the renowned philologist.

Meanwhile I wrote a new book, titled L’ASTUTO OMERO, it has 428 pages, including 270 images.

The english translation, THE CUNNING HOMER, is ready. I'm also already translating it into Spanish, and French.

I won't go into further detail: on the first pages, you'll find my brief biography, reviews by archaeologists, Greek scholars, astronomers, and astronauts(!), a preface by ephistemologist Giulio Giorello, as well as the introduction that serves as a synopsis. The introduction has been published by many italian magazines and also on June 16, 2021 by the website Classical Wisdom. On January 2026, the same text was used by Classical Wisdom as bait to invite its followers to watch a long interview with renowned Homer translator Emily Wilson.

The entire book is already translated into English by me, although it will need to be refined by a professional translator. Websites and texts in Spanish, French, and perhaps German are in preparation.

At https://scienzaviaggi.blogspot.com/2019/11/libri-majrani-in-offerta.html, you can find some of the other books produced by the Majrani brothers. We are journalist and photographers, our father Guglielmo was director of Associated Press in Milan.

The journalistic and popular style makes it suitable for everyone, even those completely unfamiliar with mythology, archaeology, philology, etc., but the theses presented remain valid even for leading experts in any subject.

This book will never get old; if books and publishers are still around in the next century, it will continue to be sold, just like the Iliad and the Odyssey.

One last important recommendation: as I explained at the very beginning of the first chapter: "I would also ask those who have studied classical literature to try to put aside all the traditional explanations they learned in high school or university, and to make an effort to approach this interpretation with an unprejudiced mind. During the course of the discussion, we will have the opportunity to compare the "academic" theses with the more or less "heretical" ones, and also to digress into some topics that do not directly concern Homer, but many other mythological tales, comparing them with the historical events and natural phenomena that may have generated them. And I would also advise against skipping any steps thinking you already know the subject, because you risk losing the thread of the discussion, which is already quite intricate by its very nature."

You realize that all it takes is a simple change in one premise to make all the facts of the Homeric mystery fit together and make everything logical, linear, and rational. Who knows why...

Best regards
